OTLEY-WHITEFORD 1849 BURLINGTON COUNTY MAP
|
The 1849 Otley-Whiteford Map identifies the New Gretna area as HARMONY. This identity is specific to a narrow time frame from the late 1840's thru the early 1850's on this and a few other maps. There is no supportive documentation that the New Gretna area was ever officially or unoffically called HARMONY by the local government or residents. It is probable that the name HARMONY was either (1) A mistake made by the map maker; (2) A prank played by the map maker; (3) An intentional error devised so that the copying of the map by another firm could be detected and proven; or (4) An unintentional error copied from another map maker.
